Memory

Memory lets Chat remember things about you — your name, role, preferences or ongoing projects — so you don't have to repeat them in every conversation.

Managing memories

Open Memory to:

  • Add a memory, for example "I write TypeScript and prefer concise answers."
  • Delete memories you no longer want Chat to use.
  • Turn memory off with the switch at the top of the page. While it is off, saved memories are kept but not used.

How memories are used

When memory is on, your saved memories (the 50 most recent) are added to the system prompt of every new Chat message, so any model you pick can take them into account. They count toward input tokens like the rest of the prompt.

Memory applies to Chat only. API requests are never modified — if you want the same behaviour in your own app, include the information in your system message.

Privacy

Memories are stored in your account and are only visible to you. Deleting a memory removes it permanently.
